OpenAI’s chief scientist says no AI lab is ready to keep scaling at maximum speed much longer.

Jakub Pachocki says progress since 2023 has convinced him that AI could soon play a growing role in improving its own capabilities.
He recalls spending that first night at the office thinking through what increasingly capable reasoning models could mean.

The warning is unusually explicit. The important part is that this comes from someone directing frontier research, while OpenAI is still building more capable systems such as GPT-6 Astra.

Pachocki expects voluntary slowdowns to become common and argues that shared safety thresholds eventually need enforcement by governments, auditors, or international bodies. The warning is internal.

Phone GPUs are getting neural accelerators.

Arm’s new Mali G2-Ultra NX integrates dedicated neural hardware directly into its shader cores, alongside a new execution engine and third-generation ray tracing unit.
In Arm’s Neural Dawn demo, the system delivered up to 4x higher performance efficiency and cut external memory traffic by as much as 70 percent.

That matters because phones have hard limits. Heat builds quickly in your hand, and high-end graphics still have to fit within tight power and memory budgets over long gaming sessions.

Arm says neural frame generation can help sustain gameplay at up to 120 FPS, while its software kit already supports Vulkan and Unreal Engine workflows.
If developers adopt this broadly, AI-generated frames and reconstructed detail could become normal parts of mobile rendering.

The real test is image quality.
