Recraft is better than Flux in image generation

PLUS: OpenAI loses another researcher

In partnership with

The world of AI image generators is growing fast. Hundreds of tools, each claiming to be the best. But only a few can truly amaze.

One of those, the rising star, is Recraft. It’s challenging even the reigning king, Flux.

Here’s what makes it unique and why it might just be your next favorite.

Why Recraft is better?

See for yourself here.

Recraft, the AI lab behind the viral Red Panda model, could be the most powerful generative image platform I’ve ever used.

It’s more than an image generator—it’s a design tool. With capabilities in photorealistic image generation, vector graphics, and top-tier inpainting, Recraft’s v3 model (aka Red Panda) is redefining what AI can do in creative spaces.

I recently spoke to Recraft's founder and CEO, Anna Veronika Dorogush, who shared insights on the platform’s unique approach.

Here’s what sets Recraft apart:

What can you do with Recraft?

  • Powerful Editor: Recraft’s editor, the “infinite canvas,” allows for seamless editing—ideal for creating detailed posters or design assets that need fine-tuning.

  • Text Consistency: Recraft nails something others can’t—text. You can add realistic, consistent text blocks that actually work for professional design. This gives it a leg up in the crowded AI image generator market.

Text is Key to Recraft’s Edge

  • Revolutionary Text Rendering: Dorogush explained that Recraft’s approach to training for text is unique. The model predicts both the position and rendering style of text, allowing it to handle complex prompts and produce more accurate results.

  • "Red Panda" Performance: Thanks to this approach, the Red Panda model tops leaderboards in text-to-image quality, beating major players like Midjourney and Flux for realism and aesthetic consistency.

What’s Next for Recraft?

  • Improving Character Consistency: The next hurdle is character consistency, a must-have for campaigns featuring recurring models or brand assets. Recraft is actively working to ensure consistency across generated images.

  • Inpainting & Outpainting Advances: Recraft will soon offer even more control over editing images. Inpainting, for example, will let users modify specific areas of an image while keeping the rest intact—perfect for on-the-fly updates in professional settings.

What’s for us?

From Midjourney’s Editor to ChatGPT’s text canvas, the AI landscape is shifting toward products that solve practical problems. Recraft is right there, pushing the boundaries of design with models that are reliable and creative.

The future of AI-driven creativity is here, and Recraft’s Red Panda is one powerful example of what’s possible.

😢 Another loss for OpenAI, Lilian Weng

Another key figure is out the door at OpenAI.

Lilian Weng, VP of research and safety, just announced her departure after seven years, saying she’s ready to “reset and explore something new.” Weng’s exit is the latest in a series of high-profile losses that highlight OpenAI’s ongoing struggle to balance rapid growth with responsible safety measures.

Here’s why this is a big deal:

  • Architect of AI Safety: Weng helped build OpenAI’s safety team from the ground up, guiding a team of 80+ scientists and policy experts. She was instrumental in shaping safety protocols that now feel more crucial than ever as AI accelerates.

  • Safety vs. Speed: Her exit follows mounting concerns that OpenAI is focusing more on launching commercial products than keeping AI safely aligned with human interests. Some former OpenAI insiders have raised red flags, arguing that the push for monetization risks sidelining vital safety work.

  • Part of a Larger Exodus (the word means mass departure 😉): Weng joins a growing list of top talent leaving OpenAI, including safety leads like Ilya Sutskever and Jan Leike, who helped build the ambitious—but now-defunct—Superalignment team. Alongside them, big names like CTO Mira Murati and co-founder John Schulman have also walked away, with several heading to rival Anthropic.

Weng expressed pride in her team’s achievements, but her exit underscores a critical tension within OpenAI.

As it races to advance AI capabilities, it’s losing the very people tasked with keeping that technology safe.

OpenAI says it’s committed to replacing Weng, but with so many top-tier safety minds exiting, it’s anyone’s guess if the commitment to AI safety is keeping pace with the push for commercial growth.
