Microsoft taps Lambda for next-gen AI infrastructure

Tens of thousands of Nvidia chips are about to supercharge Microsoft’s AI backbone.
AI cloud startup Lambda announced a multibillion-dollar partnership with Microsoft to build massive AI infrastructure expanding a relationship that began in 2018. The move places Microsoft even deeper inside the hardware stack of the AI boom.
For Lambda, backed by Nvidia and serving over 200,000 developers, it’s validation of a decade-long bet that AI compute would become its own economy. For Microsoft, it’s a reminder that whoever controls the GPUs controls the pace of intelligence itself.
The systems will include Nvidia’s new GB300 NVL72 units, the same muscle used by hyperscalers like CoreWeave and Lambda plans to keep building its own data centers, including a Kansas City AI “factory” slated for 2026.
Every generation of computing had its defining alliance. This one might be forged in silicon and trust.
Two-thirds of U.S. banks are making room for AI

AI just became the hottest line item in the boardroom. A new Bank Director survey shows 66% of U.S. banking executives have discussed allocating budget or resources to AI more than triple the attention given to any other emerging tech.
For banks, AI is no longer a curiosity; it’s strategy. Marketing, administration, and IT are leading the early adoption wave, where genAI tools promise sharper operations and lower costs. Yet consumer sentiment lags behind over a third of checking and savings users still don’t want AI handling their money.
That tension sets the stage for the next phase: balancing machine efficiency with human trust. AI may reshape how banks think, but the customer will decide how far it’s allowed to go.
The next big differentiator in banking might not be who builds the best AI but who earns permission to use it.
Studio Ghibli joins Japan’s fight against AI training

Japan’s most beloved storytellers are telling AI to back off. A trade group representing Studio Ghibli and other major publishers has asked OpenAI to stop using their copyrighted works to train its models, a move that spotlights the growing international rift over creative ownership in the age of generative AI.
The request follows viral trends of “Ghibli-style” AI portraits and videos made with OpenAI tools like ChatGPT’s image generator and the Sora video app. For creators, these aren’t homages they’re unauthorized derivatives built on decades of artistry.
While U.S. courts still wade through murky copyright waters, Japan’s laws are stricter: training on protected works without consent may itself constitute infringement. CODA, the Japanese organization leading the push, says there’s no “forgiveness-first” loophole under its system.
Miyazaki once said AI art felt like “an insult to life itself.” Nearly a decade later, that line feels less like critique and more like prophecy.
