Midjourney is going to destroy Photoshop
PLUS: OpenAI won't be releasing "Orion" model this year

Is Photoshop dead?
Midjourney upgraded image editor with new feature is going to kill it.
Previously, you were capable of editing the images generated by Midjourney, right?
Now you can edit external images you upload from your computer.
This is huge.
Because you’ll be able to do ANYTHING by just writing prompts and editing your images in Midjourney.
Let’s explore this and other hot AI stories in few minutes:

🤝 Together with Writer:
Writer RAG tool: build production-ready RAG apps in minutes
RAG in just a few lines of code? We’ve launched a predefined RAG tool on our developer platform, making it easy to bring your data into a Knowledge Graph and interact with it with AI. With a single API call, writer LLMs will intelligently call the RAG tool to chat with your data.
Integrated into Writer’s full-stack platform, it eliminates the need for complex vendor RAG setups, making it quick to build scalable, highly accurate AI workflows just by passing a graph ID of your data as a parameter to your RAG tool.
🖼️ Midjourney new feature:
We're testing two new features today: our image editor for uploaded images and image re-texturing for exploring materials, surfacing, and lighting. Everything works with all our advanced features, such as style references, character references, and personalized models

Midjourney has just launched an upgraded image editor, opening up capabilities that make it a serious contender to legacy photo editing tools like Photoshop.

Here’s what to know about Midjourney’s latest features:
Edit External Images: For the first time, users can edit images uploaded from outside Midjourney. This goes beyond generative AI images, enabling wider creative control.
Re-texture & Lighting Adjustments: Users can alter textures, materials, and lighting, making it possible to transform settings—like changing a room from day to night with a few clicks.
Exclusive Access for Long-Time Subscribers: This feature is currently available only for members with yearly subscriptions, those subscribed for 12+ months, and users with over 10,000 images created.
Sketch-to-Art Capabilities: Users can upload simple sketches or hand drawings and transform them into fully realized artwork with AI-enhanced design.
Moderation Enhancements: To maintain quality and safety, Midjourney is implementing more restrictive moderation and privacy protocols as this feature rolls out.
Midjourney’s editor even works intuitively with prompts, automatically detecting regions to modify without extensive manual input.
🤖 OpenAI on “Orion“ new model:

OpenAI announced that it doesn’t plan to launch an AI model named Orion this year, pushing back on recent reports regarding its product lineup.
“We don’t have plans to release a model code-named Orion this year,” a spokesperson told TechCrunch, adding, “We do plan to release a lot of other great technology.”
This follows a report from The Verge suggesting that Orion, OpenAI’s anticipated next-gen model, would be previewed by close collaborators, including Microsoft, as early as November with a public release through ChatGPT by December. OpenAI previously dismissed these claims but did not provide additional context.
Orion is rumored to build on the company’s flagship GPT-4o, utilizing synthetic data from OpenAI’s advanced reasoning model o1. OpenAI is expected to continue advancing both GPT models and reasoning-focused models like o1, addressing unique use cases for each.
The confirmation leaves room for interpretation. OpenAI’s next model could be something other than Orion or a simpler version—keeping OpenAI’s roadmap flexible for the future.
